Your LGTBQ+ Allies in Idaho

Welcome to our latest blog post at Feather & Fern Realty Co., where we stand firmly with the LGBTQ+ community. Today, we look into the landscape of gay rights in Idaho, offering insights into the challenges faced, the progress made, and the resources available for those who encounter discrimination or harassment.

The Current State of Gay Rights in Idaho Idaho has seen a complex evolution in gay rights. While progress is being made, challenges persist. The state lacks comprehensive anti-discrimination laws that explicitly include sexual orientation and gender identity, putting the LGBTQ+ community at a disadvantage. Although statewide protections are lacking, federal rulings offer some coverage. Many of our friends and members of the LGBTQ+ community in Idaho often face obstacles in areas like housing, employment, and public accommodations. Discrimination, whether overt or subtle, can significantly impact lives and is Not Ok.

Resources for Support and Advocacy Several organizations are pillars of support for the LGBTQ+ community in Idaho. Groups like the Idaho Human Rights Commission https://humanrights.idaho.gov/ , ACLU of Idaho https://www.acluidaho.org/ , and Pride Foundation https://pridefoundation.org/region/idaho/ offer legal aid, advocacy, and community support.

Handling Harassment and Discrimination For those experiencing harassment or discrimination, knowing what steps to take is crucial. Unfortunately, many cases of harassment and discrimination happen in the workplace - ALWAYS keep documentation on anything that makes you uncomfortable forwarded to a personal email should you ever lose access to your company email and need access to your records.

If you encounter harassment or discrimination, it’s crucial to act promptly:

  1. Document Everything: Keep detailed records of what happened, including dates, times, locations, and any witnesses.

  2. Report Immediately: Notify the relevant authorities or your HR department. For housing discrimination, contact the Idaho Human Rights Commission.

  3. Seek Legal Advice: Consult organizations like the ACLU of Idaho for legal guidance and potential representation.

  4. Support Network: Reach out to local support groups who can offer emotional and practical assistance during this time.
